Day 1: Shoulders & Arms

Shoulders

Ever wonder how best to approach a frozen shoulder, injured shoulders, upper back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis/golfer’s elbow, chronic migraines, or texting syndrome? This therapy-focused class is intended for massage therapists (table or Thai) who would like to offer deep, permanent healing for chronic ailments. All practice will take place on the floor, and the approach is based on Thai bodywork theory, but these techniques can easily be applied to the table.

Shoulders

Topics covered:

  • Precise points and techniques to use for the shoulders and arms in all positions (supine, prone, side, sitting).
  • Sen and Meridian lines that pass through the arms and shoulders. Learn how they affect or are affected by other parts of the body.
  • The use and art of long compressions and the breath.
  • Identifying the source of the pain or limitation and following congestion along fascial lines.
  • Therapist’s body positioning. There are many ways to accomplish the same goal; we will help you find the most comfortable way that most suits your body. Comfort and ease are critical for maintaining the longevity of a bodyworker’s career. You will also get to try out Christopher’s unique strap system which is designed to support your body in endless ways.
  • Shoulder and arm self-care to inspire your clients to maintain the health of their bodies.

Pre-requisite:
Minimum 1-yr massage experience and an understanding of the regional anatomy.

Day 2: Neck

Thai Massage Therapeutics; Shoulders, Arms, & Neck

The neck is an incredibly common area where people experience pain and is one of the trickiest places to receive (and give) bodywork. Working the neck requires grace, patience, and presence. The results are well worth the effort. Help your client see better, think more clearly, decrease jaw tension, gain range of motion, and sleep better at night. All practice will take place on the floor, but these techniques can easily be applied to the table.

Topics covered:

  • Recognize the fascial lines affecting the neck. Learn upper back, shoulder, and arm points that will clear neck congestion and pain.
  • The use of elbows, knees, and feet on the neck. Minimize muscular effort and save your thumbs.
  • Neck techniques in supine, prone, side, and seated positions. There are many ways to accomplish the same goal, so we will help you find the positioning that is most comfortable for both you and your client.
  • The use of long compressions, breath, and grace.
  • Self-care neck and shoulder techniques.

Pre-requisite:
Minimum 1-yr massage experience and an understanding of the regional anatomy.
